Yoga and Health Tips for Spring
Bring some spring into your step with these helpful yoga tips.
Springtime is delightful, enticing, and inspiring. We look forward to the bright sunshine as nature moves from the cold, dark winter months. As this transition takes place and we feel the energy of nature shift into new growth and the pulse of being alive, our bodies may need some rejuvenation after being in somewhat of a hibernated state all winter long.
To spring into health and enjoy a lively spring season, you'll need to understand the body and bring it into balance. Since the body tends to hibernate during the winter, you may have found yourself eating more, sleeping more, and staying indoors more. In the spring, we want to ease into a routine to help us lighten up physically, emotionally, and mentally. Otherwise, our bodies will react with head colds, seasonal allergies, and emotional stress.
Here are your springtime yoga and health tips:
Eat lighter, wholesome foods and seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables
Wake up and practice 3 Sun Salutations each morning to generate inner heat in the body to cleanse and detoxify the body. Practice up to 7 rounds if you want more vitality so that you feel light, warm, and invigorated with an alert mind and clear senses. Practicing consistently is more important than how many you do.
Practice yoga poses to stimulate the flow of prana (energy) through the body such as squats, chair pose, lion pose, cat pose, warrior 1, cobra pose, downward dog, shoulderstand and seated twists.
Practice deep belly breathing to strengthen the lungs and remove mucus build up.
Engage in conscious relaxation and bring awareness to your body and mind as you relax with every breath. Try to practice this during the day, not only in shavasana.

Drink chamomile tea in the evenings to improve digestion and circulation.
Be inspired by this magical time of year by looking around and listening to the sounds of nature waking up from the winter months. Renewal and transformation are literally welling up from the ground.
Take your yoga mat outside and practice on the grass or at the beach.
Slow down and enjoy the change of seasons.
Savor the springtime by simplifying your life to include only those things that truly revitalize your body and soul.
